English reading skills

It is important for the quality of healthcare to keep up with developments in your workfield. One of the ways to do this is to read professional literature. This professional literature is usually in English. Mastering English reading skills is therefore important. To demonstrate your English reading skills, you provide a language certificate that meets the stated requirements.

If you apply as a Caregiver in individual healthcare (VIG), you do not have to provide proof of English reading skills.

Valid proof of English reading skills

  • Certificate of an English language test Cambridge, IELTS, TOEFL or from a Dutch university language center
  • Final report on English-language primary education (primary school) and secondary education diploma (high school)
  • Appendix to your diploma (diploma supplement) showing that you have completed vocational training in English

Language certificate requirements

The language certificate for English reading proficiency must meet the requirements below

  • An exam/test or assessment must be completed. Proof of participation in a course is not sufficient.
  • The test must in any case consist of the reading component (reading skills).
  • The reading component must be completed at the correct level and with good results.
  • The diploma or certificate may not be older than 2 years.
  • The certificate must be original or original certified.
