Costs for testing the certificate of competence
In order to obtain a certificate of competence, you must take a general knowledge and skills test (AKV-toets). If you are a doctor, dentist or nurse, you must then also take a professional knowledge test (BI-toets). What costs should you expect to pay?
General knowledge and skills (AKV) test
Academic professions: €530
Senior Secondary Vocational Education (MBO) and Higher Professional Education (HBO) professions €190

- Interview and report: € 200
- English reading proficiency: € 65
- Knowledge of the Dutch healthcare system: € 65
Senior Secondary Vocational Education (MBO) and Higher Professional Education (HBO) professions
- Dutch: € 95
- English: € 40
- Knowledge of the terminology in the healthcare sector: € 55
Cancellation at least 8 weeks before test
Did you pay but are you not going to take the AKV test? If you cancel at least 8 weeks before the test. We will refund the amount if you provide written reasons for the cancellation.
Professional knowledge test (BI-toets)
- Doctors: € 1,700;
- Dentists: € 1,500;
- Nurses: € 400.
