Costs and processing time
The time the total procedure takes until your qualification is recognised and you are registered depends on a number of factors. The total procedure consists of the time taken by your own preparation and the assessment and processing of your application by the BIG register. Applying for automatic recognition with direct enrolment with BIG registration costs € 85. Obtaining the required documents, or having them authenticated and translated also often costs money. These costs are different for each country and situation.
Processing time
The assessment of your application can take up to three months. If you immediately provide all required and valid documents, the assessment and handling is often faster. Therefore, prepare your application well.
The following factors can cause the total process to be extended:
Obtaining documents from abroad
It can sometimes take a long time to obtain the required documents (evidence) from a foreign institution. This can cause the total process to take longer. Prevent unnecessary reminders and any extra costs by first ensuring that your documents are complete before you make an application.
Missing documents or information
If documents are missing from your application, or if additional or missing information is required, we will send you a relevant request. As a result it may take longer to process your application.
Period in the year
A lot of healthcare professionals submit registration applications in the months of July and August. It may therefore take longer to assess and process applications in these months.
Statutory processing period
The law stipulates that the processing of an application for direct enrolment in the BIG register should take no more than 3 months. The processing time starts as soon as we have received your complete application. A complete application consists of a signed application form with the correct enclosures and your payment. If we have not yet received all the necessary documents from you, the statutory processing period will stop. It will continue when you have sent us all the missing documents.
Costs
An application for automatic recognition with direct enrolment with direct BIG registration costs € 85. This amount is determined by law. If your application is rejected, we will not refund the processing costs.
Obtaining the required documents, or having them authenticated and translated also often costs money. These costs are different for each country and situation.
Possible extra costs
You must demonstrate that you are not subject to any foreign restrictions of authority or criminal convictions. Obtaining the evidence in question (CCPS and CGC) will often cost money. The amounts differ per country.
In addition, you must also submit proof of Dutch language proficiency along with your application. You will have to pay to follow a Dutch language course and/or take a test. The related costs differ per provider.
